Did you know that around 35% of the waste stream is made up of aluminium cans and PET plastic bottles?

Want to make sure you’re making a difference?

When you recycle with Envirobank you know that your trash doesn’t wind up as landfill every single can and bottle accepted is a bottle or can recycled.

Join the recycling revolution – use the Envirobank to make your recycling count

Plastic

bottles
  • Approximately 88% of the energy taken to produce plastic is saved by using recycled plastic materials instead of using oil and gas to start from scratch.

  • Plastic containers accepted by an Envirobank are recycled into plastic lumber for picnic tables, park benches, carpet fibre, clothing, paint brushes, and car parts.

  • PET plastic recycled in Envirobanks is used to make a product called ‘eco-fleece’, used to stuff pillows, doonas, ski-suits and sleeping bags.

  • 125 recycled plastic milk bottles can be used to manufacture a 140-litre wheelie bin!

  • Tragically, plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kills as many as 1,000,000 sea creatures every year.

Aluminium

cans
  • Every aluminium can recycled saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for 3.5 hours.

  • The Envirobank holds enough aluminium cans to light a 60-watt bulb for a whole year.

  • 95% less energy is needed to make aluminium from recycled cans instead of from the raw material, bauxite.

  • There is no limit to the amount of times aluminium can be recycled.

  • The energy saved by recycling 1 ton of aluminium could fuel a small family car for 100,000km.

  • Aluminium cans and aluminium scrap are recycled into aeroplanes and cars – and of course, more cans!

  • A used aluminium can is recycled and back on the supermarket shelf as a new can in as little as 60 daysthat's closed loop recycling at its finest!

  • The average employee consumes 2.5 cans of soft drink each day at work. So use the Envirobank to make sure your cans are not canned!

  • And remember, even after 500 years, a discarded aluminium can will not have decomposed.

" Recycling aside, the Envirobank has allowed us to remove 15 comingled bins from the campus, giving us back about 15 square metres of previous floor space and saving the cost of the bin lifts. The Envirobank has saved us about nine hours of labour a week that was previously needed to manage these bins. We also have fewer odours in the bin areas as PET and aluminium waste products are now kept in the one closed location."
